Sometimes in our job you see some nice old pieces of infrastructure.
We recently saw just such an example of an old borehole that we were being asked to decommission properly in accordance with environmental regulation, probably dating from the 1960’s or 70s, not especially old but nice to see none the less. We thought we’d share the picture of the borehole headwork’s with you. It’s nice to see these old headwork’s and how boreholes have been used to provide water supplies for a long time.
Most old boreholes can of course be brought back into commission if they have fallen into disrepair and this is always nicer than decommissioning but it is important that decommissioning is done in compliance with regulations to ensure protection of an important resource.
